Lined Waterway or Outlet
A Lined Waterway or Outlet is a waterway or conveyance channel having an erosion-resistant lining of concrete, stone, synthetic turf reinforcement fabrics, or other flexible permanent material to reduce erosion and protect water quality. This video explores how Elam King implemented this conservation practice on his farm in Leola, Pennsylvania. NOTE: Mr. King is a member of the plain sect community and requested his face not appear on camera.
Practice benefits:
• Reduces sediment loss into nearby streams
• Reduces erosion
• Promotes safe water conveyance
• Supports other conservation practices
The Conservation at Work video series was created to increase producer awareness of common conservation practices and was filmed at various locations throughout the country. Because conservation plans are specific to the unique resource needs on each farm and also soil type, weather conditions, etc., these videos were designed to serve as a general guide to the benefits of soil and water conservation and landowners should contact their local USDA office for individual consultation.
