Fifth Global Expert Forum for Producers and Users of Disaster-related Statistics (8 oct 2025)
The Fifth Global Expert Forum for Producers and Users of Disaster-related Statistics, convened annually by the United Nations in collaboration with regional partners and led by the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Disaster-Related Statistics (IAEG-DRS), was held virtually from 6 to 8 October 2025. This fifth edition, organized by ECLAC, brought together representatives from national statistical offices, international organizations, academic institutions, and risk management specialists to advance the consolidation of the Global Disaster-Related Statistics Framework (G-DRSF), which aims to provide a common framework for the collection and use of such data worldwide. During the three-day forum, key topics were addressed to improve the production, consistency, and use of data on natural disasters and extreme events:
Day 3 (October 8) focused on innovation and future cooperation: initiatives using emerging technologies—such as satellite imagery and open geospatial data—to close information gaps were presented. The final sessions focused on lessons learned, next steps for implementing the G-DRSF, and the importance of strengthening cooperation between countries and international organizations.
The forum concluded by reaffirming the global commitment to generating quality statistics that support more effective public policies for disaster risk reduction, in line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
