ECLAC's Executive Secretary, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, took part in the event “Protecting Environmental Defenders: Advancing the Escazú Agreement. Mobilising resources to strengthen safety and impact across Latin America”, held in the framework of #COP30 in Brazil.
In a pre-recorded video, he warned that Latin America and the Caribbean is the most dangerous region in the world to defend the environment, with escalating threats, attacks, and intimidation. “Over 80% of reported environmental related murders in the world happen here”, affirmed.
