One Field, Two Harvests: The Simple Approach to Rice-Fish Farming
Rice fields in many rural communities are often used to grow just one crop each season. But with a different approach, the same field can produce both rice and fish.
Rice–fish farming is a method in which fish are raised directly in flooded rice paddies. As the rice grows, the fish move through the water, feeding on insects and helping to improve soil conditions.
At the end of the season, farmers can harvest both rice and fish — supporting food production, better nutrition, and income at the same time.
One field. Two harvests. A simple approach that supports livelihoods and the environment.
