Animal health threats are becoming more frequent, complex, and interconnected across animals, people and the environment, with direct consequences for livelihoods, food security and global health.
From 2022 to 2025, a project implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with the financial support of the Government of the United States of America, strengthened early warning systems, biosecurity and workforce capacity to help countries detect risks earlier and prevent disease outbreaks before they spread.
Through the voices of farmers, field officers, laboratory staff and technical experts in Ghana, this video shows how risks can now be identified in the field, reported through digital tools, analyzed in laboratories, and translated into faster and more coordinated action.
The video also highlights how integrated systems such as FAO's Event Mobile Application (EMA-i+) and the Emergency Prevention System (EMPRES-i+) connect field surveillance, laboratory diagnostics and national decision-making, contributing to stronger One Health systems and more resilient communities.
While implemented in Ghana, Guinea and Tanzania, the project developed tools, frameworks and knowledge products designed for application at global scale.
