Beyond the manual: A holistic approach to biosecurity implementation through WABA, SOPs, information

FAO and the World Animal Biosecurity Association (WABA) Scientific and Information Committee launched a new webinar series addressing relevant topics related to the concepts and application of biosecurity in animal populations. While biosecurity is widely recognised as a cornerstone of preventive veterinary medicine, its effective implementation requires integrated approaches that go beyond written guidelines. This series explores how biosecurity can be consistently and sustainably implemented across educational, institutional, and field settings, contributing to improved animal health and production, One Health and food security. Each webinar wil feature one or two expert presentations followed by an interactive Q&A session. In this webinar, Prof. Claude Saegerman share insights to help veterinary students and staff acquire biosecurity skills within veterinary education establishments. Starting with animal biosecurity research, the results are spread through four interconnected instruments: biosecurity standard operating policies and procedures, a dedicated biosecurity website, an annual biosecurity day, and the production of checklists to assess the biosecurity level of compliance.
