This video documents the successful pilot cleanup of a dangerous obsolete pesticide landfill in Tajikistan, a legacy of Soviet-era farming. Watch as the FAO, with support from the Global Environment Facility and local partners, excavates 33 tons of toxic pesticides and over 5 000 tons of contaminated soil, making the land safe for residents to build greenhouses. This initiative proves that through international cooperation and strict safety standards, even severely contaminated land can be restored for sustainable farming and community well-being. It is a powerful blueprint for addressing over 200 similar toxic mini-landfills across the country to protect public health and the environment.
