River Turtle Conservation Success in Rupununi, Guyana #SWMProgramme

Across the Rupununi Region in Guyana, communities are leading efforts to protect endangered river turtles and restore nesting beaches. Through the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme and partners, more than 18,000 eggs have been protected while supporting local rangers and conservation action across 131 beaches. The SWM Programme is an international initiative, co-funded by the European Union, the French Facility for Global Environment and the French Development Agency. It is being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR-ICRAF) and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).
