Improving Collaboration between Veterinarians and Veterinary Paraprofessionals

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the World Veterinary Association (WVA) and the African Veterinary Technicians Association (AVTA), presents this webinar on strengthening collaboration between veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals (VPPs) in Nigeria, Uganda and South Africa. The session shares results from country-level activities implemented through national professional associations under FAO’s Empowering Veterinary Paraprofessional Entrepreneurs project. Veterinarians and VPPs play distinct but complementary roles in animal health service delivery. Strengthening collaboration between these professions can improve coordination, expand access to services for livestock farmers in underserved areas, and support disease prevention, surveillance and response. This contributes to more resilient animal health systems, sustainable livestock production, improved livelihoods and enhanced food security.
