At the edge of the Virunga mountains, in the highlands of Kisoro, a quiet transformation takes root. Led by Gerald Nkusi and partners from Home of Kigezi, farmers, youth and members of the Batwa community come together to restore what the land remembers, shaping new life through the creation of food forests across their plots. The Forest Within is a story of coexistence and continuity, where Batwa voices, memories and futures are carried through acts of care. Forests begin to breathe again, habitats recover for species such as the endangered mountain gorilla, and connections between people and place grow stronger as they protect and reveal the living legacy of the Virunga landscape.
