Overview of the Kunene River Basin

Spanning the diverse landscapes of Angola and Namibia, the Kunene River Basin is a vital lifeline for over 2.3 million people. While its waters hold immense potential for hydropower and agriculture, the basin faces growing challenges from climate change, severe droughts, and ecosystem degradation. In this video, we introduce the unique features and shared transboundary challenges of the Kunene Basin where the "Enhanced Water Security and Community Resilience in the Adjacent Cuvelai and Kunene Transboundary River Basins" (CUVKUN) Project is being implemented. The CUVKUN project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the GEF Implementing Agency. The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) is the Executing Agency, while the Cuvelai Commission (CUVECOM) and Kunene Permanent Joint Technical Committee (PJTC) are the focal custodians of the project implementation.
