Guidance notes for humanitarian projects design

Guidance notes for humanitarian projects design

The now cyclical climate emergencies continue to increasingly destroy critical water infrastructures, and are changing the humanitarian operating landscape. Communities suffer when essential systems break down. When a borehole, tanks and/or supply pipes are broken, for instance, affected communities, especially women trek long distances in search of water. Oxfam Kenya, in partnership with Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany has consequently developed a series of guidance notes, to help mitigate the problem by ensuring climate risks are factored during the design and development of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) systems. We have so far applied these principles in our programmes in Turkana and hope to roll this out in other sections of the country.
