Most arid & semi-arid lands like Turkana, are known for dry spells that deplete and create acute water unavailability. But paradoxically, floods have also become a destructive force to water infrastructures and continues to add to existing miseries; and ommunities like Moruese have intimately experienced this cycle first-hand. Borehole are drilled, communities come to depend on them, and after two or three predictable drought and floods episodes, the infrastructures collapse. The water committees run out of funds, a repair contractor arrives months later, if at all. Then the crisis begins. We have partnered with Davis Shirtliff to rehabilitate broken and critical community assets in Turkana to break the breakdown cycle.
