Energy poverty, energy efficiency and energy sufficiency in the Western Balkans’ building sector

The online panel, which took place on 24 February 2026, follows up on the recently published discussion paper on energy poverty, energy sufficiency and deep renovation in the Western Balkans (https://bankwatch.org/publication/priority-measures-for-energy-efficiency-in-buildings-discussion-paper-on-energy-poverty-energy-sufficiency-and-deep-renovation-in-the-western-balkans). Nina Djukanović, Energy Transformation Campaigner for the Western Balkans in Bankwatch and author of the paper, opened the panel with a short introduction. Additional contributions were provided by Stefan Bouzarovski, Professor of Human Geography at the University of Manchester, and Nevena Smilevska, Just Transition Coordinator for the Western Balkans in Bankwatch. The conclusions from the discussion will be used to identify priority activities to address energy poverty in the region and to speed up energy efficiency retrofits.
