FOOD FROM SOMEWHERE | Online event & discussion

At this online event on 19 September 2024, IPES-Food experts discussed our report, "Food From Somewhere: building food security and resilience through territorial markets." With progress on global hunger in reverse, the ‘zero hunger’ goal for 2030 is increasingly unattainable. Corporate-controlled global food chains have proven catastrophically susceptible to disruptions, climate change and market volatility. Meanwhile, localized food webs and supply chains (‘territorial markets’) are a critical but neglected approach to feeding a hungry world. They are demonstrating improved food security, health, equity, and environmental outcomes, while boosting community cohesion. But territorial markets are under threat. They require better understanding, and urgent support. Hear from host: Raj Patel, IPES-Food and University of Austin And speakers: Jennifer Clapp, IPES-Food and University of Waterloo, and Shalmali Guttal, IPES-Food and Focus on the Global South.
