World’s 1st Transboundary Ocean Reserve w/Re:wild in the Eastern Tropical Pacific | Bezos Earth Fund

Whales, sharks, and sea turtles don’t stop at borders – and neither should conservation. In the Eastern Tropical Pacific – a stretch of ocean off the coasts of Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador – the Bezos Earth Fund and Re:wild are working with partners to create the world’s first transboundary biosphere marine reserve. Covering more than 600,000 km² (about 232,000 square miles) – bigger than the size of Texas – this historic effort connects migration routes, safeguards biodiversity, and supports coastal communities that depend on healthy oceans. Protecting life in the ocean means working across borders – and proving what’s possible when nations unite for nature.
