The NEA WebChat series returns in 2026 with a discussion between NEA Director-General William D. Magwood, IV and Women in Nuclear (WiN) Global President Melina Belinco. In 2023, the NEA published the first comprehensive survey of gender balance in NEA countries revealing women’s underrepresentation in the nuclear sector, especially in STEM and leadership roles. The NEA, together with its member countries and partners such as WiN Global, has invested significant effort in initiatives aimed at attracting, retaining and supporting a gender-balanced workforce. Held ahead of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, this NEA WebChat provided an opportunity to review recent progress and explore what further actions are needed to build a robust, diverse and skilled nuclear workforce – one capable of driving new projects, ensuring effective regulation, advancing research and development, and stepping into key leadership roles in the future.
