Webinar: A Regulatory Agency’s Role in Radioactive Waste Management and Decommissioning

This webinar launches the Regulatory Skills Hub series developed by the NEA Regulators' Forum (RF). It aims to consolidate the knowledge and skills regulatory agencies need to effectively carry out their functions for the safe management of the nuclear back-end. This introductory webinar describes the overarching functions of a regulatory agency in radioactive waste management and decommissioning. It explores the regulatory control system governing the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle, focusing on how regulatory bodies support safe management solutions, from waste generation to disposal and dismantling of nuclear installations. The webinar highlights key regulatory principles such as independence, transparency, and adaptability, and illustrate how regulatory frameworks interact with broader environmental, economic, and social objectives to support responsible nuclear back end management.
