Every year on 8 May, World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day honours the people who form the heart of the IFRC network and the wider Movement, the dedicated volunteers and staff who stand alongside communities in times of crisis. This year’s theme, United in Humanity, reflects a simple but powerful truth: those who respond to emergencies are not separate from the communities they serve — they are part of them. They are neighbours, friends, colleagues, and family members who step forward in moments of fear, loss, and uncertainty, offering support and reminding others that they are not alone. Today, we pay tribute to their compassion and courage. We remember those who have lost their lives while helping others, and we renew our commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of humanitarian workers everywhere. For more than a century, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has stood beside communities in their most difficult moments. In a world often marked by division, we continue to choose unity. We choose humanity. Together, we are United in Humanity.
