Shaik Salauddin, from National General Secretary of the Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers (IFAT) and Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), explains how India is moving toward stronger protections for gig and platform workers. While the 2020 Code on Social Security recognized these workers for the first time, implementation only began moving forward in 2026 with draft rules, while several states are advancing their own laws on social security, fair wages, data transparency, and grievance systems.
