Tim Klüssendorf makes it clear why Germany urgently needs to reform its inheritance tax: While the very largest inheritances and gifts often remain almost entirely tax-free today, inheritances just above the tax-free allowances bear a disproportionate share of the tax burden — and that’s unfair. This needs to be turned around: Smaller inheritances must be relieved, while the biggest fortunes must pay their fair share.
