Honoring Hispanic Heritage Month at the IDB

To honor Hispanic Heritage Month, on October 14, we opened our doors to an evening that highlighted the depth, creativity, and diversity of Hispanic culture. Leaders from across the region—ambassadors, artists, and cultural voices—gathered at our headquarters in Washington D.C., to pay tribute to the stories, traditions, and innovations that continue to shape Latin America and the Caribbean. The night featured reflections from IDB President Ilan Goldfajn and a vibrant conversation on how culture drives development, with chef Juan Manuel Barrientos, founder and executive chef of Elcielo Hospitality Group, and Jorge Villamizar, Grammy-winning singer and songwriter from the band Bacilos. Surrounded by powerful works from the IDB’s permanent art collection, guests were invited to explore “Unseen Threads: Weaving Connections Across Latin American and Caribbean Art”—an exhibition presented in collaboration with the Embassies of Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Uruguay, celebrating the creative connections that unite our region.
