Hukun Farah Ali, originally from Somalia, has been living in Bokolomayo refugee camp for the past 17 years. As an active member of the camp’s women’s association, she took part in a JRS reconciliation programme, where she received training in effective conflict resolution. Today, Hukun shares these skills within her community, helping to transform a once divided population into one where dialogue can take place openly and safely. While women were previously excluded from conflict resolution processes, they are now increasingly recognised as essential contributors, working alongside traditional leaders to resolve disputes and strengthen community cohesion. This programme was supported by the German Federal Foreign Office through ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) under its ZIVIK funding programme.
