The Global CCCM Cluster updated the Guide for Planning Mass Evacuation in Disasters (the MED Guide) in 2024. The MED Guide replaces and updates the original MEND Guide published in 2014 to align with contextual and policy developments as climate related hazards and disasters have intensified. The new MED Guide is centered on localized, inclusive approaches with new content on protection considerations on evacuation planning. On 14 May, the Global CCCM Cluster led a launch webinar which was attended by 105 participants, including staff from UN agencies, NGOs, donors and government officials. The event began with opening remarks from the IOM Global CCCM Cluster Coordinator. Featured speakers included the lead author of the MED Guide revision, a representative from the city of Navotas in the Philippines where the MEND guide was rolled out in 2015 as well as an IOM senior staff involved in the roll-out in Vanuatu.
