Access to land: 1 billion people at risk – A report raises the alarm
The land is where everything happens. It nourishes, shelters, connects... Despite progress, 1 billion people worldwide still feel insecure about their land rights. Only 35% of land is documented, and 42% of the world's land, managed by customary systems, is vulnerable.
The report by @UNFAO @landcoalition and #Cirad takes stock of land tenure systems around the world and their governance, and makes six recommendations.
✅ Why does land governance remain weak despite political advances?
✅ How does land insecurity exacerbate hunger, inequality and conflict?
✅ The key role of customary lands for climate and biodiversity (37% of unrecoverable carbon!)
✅ Six urgent recommendations for a fairer and more sustainable future
Three-minute summary with Jérémy Bourgoin, geographer at #CIRAD and #ILC, and Ward Anseeuw, Head of the Land Tenure Team at #FAO.
