Don’t be fooled by this adorable face. The Weddell seal is built for extremes. It undertakes deep foraging dives that plunge 400 to 600 meters beneath the Antarctic ice and can last more than an hour, navigating cold, crushing depths in near-total darkness. Between these descents, they haul themselves onto the sea ice where their barrel-shaped bodies settle into stillness, recovering for another journey into the blue-black world below. 🎥: Byron Dilkes
