Start with the hardest to reach: A new test and treatment for relapsing P. vivax malaria in Brazil
Plasmodium vivax (P. vivax), also known as recurring malaria, is the most challenging type of malaria to treat and eliminate. Because the drugs required for radical cure can cause adverse effects in patients with G6PD deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends conducting a G6PD test prior to treatment.
Brazil became the first malaria-endemic country to introduce point-of-care G6PD testing with single-dose tafenoquine. The affordable, easy-to-use STANDARD G6PD Test, developed by SD Biosensor in partnership with PATH, expands equitable access to treatment for P. vivax in Brazil's remote and indigenous communities.
