Women Breaking Boundaries: Past, Present, and Future
This International Women’s Day, CGIAR invites you to a unique global conversation connecting senior women leaders with the 21 members of the Breaking Boundaries 2026 Antarctica Expedition.
From the ice fields of Antarctica to decision-making spaces around the world, women scientists, explorers, and leaders are shaping how we understand climate change — and how we secure our food future.
The Southern Ocean is one of Earth’s most important climate regulators. It absorbs heat, stores carbon and drives nutrient cycles that support global agriculture, marine fisheries and aquaculture. Its health effects food systems everywhere.
Understanding and protecting these systems is critical to building resilient food systems — a core part of CGIAR’s mission in ensuring a food-secure future.
During this interactive event you will:
- Meet the multidisciplinary all-women Antarctic expedition team
- Hear reflections from global leaders including Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, Executive Managing Director of CGIAR
- Explore how science, leadership, and mentorship can inspire the next generation of women in STEAM
This event will also honor forgotten women polar pioneers and highlight the importance of inclusive leadership in science.
