The essential role of women in peacebuilding

In 2025, it will be 25 years since the United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 1325 (UNSCR1325). To examine the essential role of women in peacebuilding, we spoke to Rosa Emilia Salamanca, Executive Director of the Corporación de Investigación y Acción Social y Económica (CIASE) in Colombia. UNSCR1325 reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peacebuilding and peacekeeping. It encourages all nations to increase the participation of women and incorporate gender perspectives. The conversation with our Senior Gender Adviser covered a wide range of topics from the anti-gender movement and the role men have to play in being allies for women and gender equality, to what lessons we can learn from climate activism and what meaningful participation means for women in peacebuilding.
