Jordan’s water crisis: Northern Jordan

Jordan could be considered an archetype of a water-stressed nation. Climate change, population growth, demographic shocks and poor planning drain the country’s minimal natural water supplies. Moving north of Ghor Haditha by the Dead Sea, is the Wehda (Unity) Dam, a huge concrete embankment at Jordan’s border with Syria. It’s Jordan’s largest dam, a reliable source for more than a third of the country’s water supply. But it’s never been more than half full.
