Plastic to purpose: Women tackling waste on Ukerewe Island
On Ukerewe Island in Lake Victoria, a group of women is tackling two problems at once: plastic waste scattered across their community and the daily struggle to make ends meet. By collecting and selling used bottles, they’re helping to keep their surroundings cleaner — while earning a small amount to support their households.
