From lake to river: How pollution around Lake Victoria is choking the Nile
What is thrown away along the shores of Lake Victoria does not stay there. As the source of the Nile, the lake carries plastic waste and other pollutants downstream, turning local disposal failures into a regional environmental challenge. From shoreline communities to river systems far beyond the lake, the effects of pollution are accumulating — quietly, steadily, and with consequences that extend well beyond national borders.
