Nature is the Solution: Living Shorelines in New England
Living shorelines are one tool for strengthening coasts and building resilience for the communities that live along them. These nature-based solutions are a set of approaches that mimic coastal habitats while incorporating some structural elements to slow wave energy and reduce flooding. TNC shares three different examples of living shoreline types, from Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine, that are critical demonstrations of the tool for other towns and coastal areas to learn from. In partnership with the Northeast Regional Ocean Council, TNC is helping provide training, increase planning capacity at the local level and jumpstart living shoreline projects throughout New England.
