Young Lives Ethiopia Qual 6 Research Report Launch Workshop

This video captures the official launch of the Young Lives Ethiopia Qualitative Round 6 (Qual 6) Research Report, bringing together senior government officials, development partners, researchers, and practitioners to reflect on key findings shaping the lives of young people in Ethiopia. The event opened with welcoming remarks from Dr Alula Pankhurst, Country Director of Young Lives Ethiopia, followed by keynote addresses from H.E. Olivia Leslie, Ambassador of Ireland, and Ms Amanda McLoughlin OBE, Development Director of FCDO Ethiopia. Senior representatives from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, including Dr Wassie Lingerh (Ministry of Health) and Dr Getahun Tolessa (Ministry of Women and Social Affairs), provided policy-focused opening remarks, underscoring the relevance of the findings to national priorities. The research presentations highlighted critical dimensions of young people’s lived experiences during a period marked by overlapping crises, including conflict, inflation, and social change: • Gender and Health: Child Marriage, FGM/C, MCH and SRH – Nardos Chuta • Young People with Disabilities – Dr Yisak Tafere • Young People’s Mental Health and Well-being – Dr Alula Pankhurst • Education, Work and Migration – Dr Yisak Tafere The programme concluded with closing reflections from Professor Tassew Woldehanna, Principal Investigator of Young Lives Ethiopia. The Qual 6 findings provide in-depth qualitative evidence on how structural inequalities, gender norms, disability, and socio-economic pressures are shaping transitions to adulthood. The discussion offers valuable insights for policymakers, development partners, researchers, and practitioners working to advance equitable outcomes for children and young people in Ethiopia.
