Nduna Mundandwe of the Lozi people

In Zambia, the Lozi people have remained the custodians of Liuwa Plain for centuries. Today, over 12,000 people continue to live inside Liuwa Plain National Park in coexistence with its wildlife. This has been made possible thanks to 20 years of partnership between the Barotse Royal Establishment, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and African Parks that ensures the landscape is protected while both people and wildlife benefit. Induna Mundandwe shares his insights: “The importance of conserving wildlife is that the communities themselves believe that the wildlife they live with is theirs.”
