In Belize, a transgender migrant woman was able to start over
La Bestie, a transgender migrant woman from Honduras, arrived in Belize when she was just 8 years old.
For years, she worked, studied, and sold vegetables on the street while dreaming of an opportunity to build a better future.
When she was finally able to regularize her migration status, she tearfully told thousands of people on TikTok, “They changed my life,” as she proudly showed her Belizean ID documents.
For her, receiving those documents was about much more than paperwork: it meant being able to work, travel, support her family, and live more freely.
Her story reflects the hopes of many migrants and LGBTQIA+ people seeking recognition of their rights, the chance to contribute to their communities, and the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
