WHO launches the 2025 World Malaria Report as pressure from drug resistance grows
The key takeaway from the 2025 World Malaria Report: #malaria drug resistance is an unmistakable threat.
Since 2000, the #malaria community has prevented 2.3 billion cases and 14 million deaths. MMV is proud to have contributed to these gains. Yet, the report shows how quickly progress can stall in the face of multiple challenges, including drug resistance.
For MMV, the report reinforces the mission that has guided us from the beginning: staying ahead of resistance through #innovation and global #partnership.
With partners, we have helped bring forward multiple artemisinin-based medicines that have contributed to reducing the malaria burden worldwide. Today, new tools – including ganaplacide-lumefantrine (GanLum), the first non-artemisinin-based treatment in 25 years – show what long-term collaboration can deliver.
The world still has an opportunity to protect decades of progress against malaria. Sustained commitment, strong surveillance and continued innovation will be essential to staying ahead of the parasite.
