Knowledge Exchange Visit: Peskas Lessons from Timor-Leste to Tanzania and Mozambique
While small-scale fisheries support millions of livelihoods across Asia and Africa, many countries still struggle with limited and unreliable data to guide fisheries management. Through the Asia-Africa BlueTech SuperHighway (AABS), WorldFish is supporting countries such as Tanzania, Mozambique, and Kenya to adopt Peskas, a digital fisheries system aimed at improving how fisheries data is collected, analyzed, and used for decision making.
In March 2026, delegates from Tanzania and Mozambique travelled to Timor-Leste, where Peskas has been implemented for several years, to exchange lessons, share progress made since adopting the system, and learn from Timor-Leste's experience in scaling digital fisheries management. The visit highlights how cross-regional learning is helping countries strengthen data systems, support small-scale fisheries, and build more sustainable and resilient fisheries.
