Who Is Considered a Migrant?

Who is considered a migrant, and who gets labelled as one? In this video, Didier Ruedin and Janine Dahinden explore how categories such as migration background, second generation, migrant and expat impact the way people are perceived in research, policy, and society. Drawing on their research at the nccr – on the move, they show that these labels are not neutral. They can simplify complex realities, misclassify people, and reinforce inequalities, discrimination, and exclusion. This video is part of a series marking 12 years of research at the nccr – on the move, supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), and produced by RebelMango. 💬 What do you think about labelling someone a “migrant”?
