What Does Integration Really Mean?

What Does Integration Really Mean?

What does it really mean to be “integrated”, and who gets to decide? In this video, Stefanie Kurt and Stefan Manser-Egli explore how integration is defined and assessed in Swiss migration policy. From language skills and employment to “constitutional values,” these criteria influence people’s rights and can even affect whether they are allowed to stay. Drawing on their research at the nccr – on the move, they show that integration is not a neutral concept. It can be applied unevenly, create pressure, and raise important questions about fairness and equality. This video is part of a series marking 12 years of research at the nccr – on the move, supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation, and produced by RebelMango. 💬 What do you think about how “integration” is defined and applied?
