Women’s Voices from Souk Sidi Chatti, M’saken (Tunisia)

Souk Sidi Chatti, the Women’s Market in M’saken (Tunisia) is a symbol of resilience, collective solidarity, and women’s leadership in local economies. A new chapter is now unfolding through the co-creation of urban interventions between Cities Alliance, the women traders, and the Municipality of M’saken. As part of the Femmedina programme, stalls are being reorganised for better circulation and visibility, shading structures are being added to reduce heat, lighting is being improved to make the market safer, and new sanitary facilities, including ablution spaces, are being built. A new tourist circuit linking the Great Mosque to Souk Sidi Chatti will also showcase M’saken’s spiritual and artisanal heritage, attracting visitors and supporting women’s livelihoods. Listen to the voices of the women traders of the Souk! The Femmedina programme is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
