Fostering water management by local women in Sebkha, Mauritania

Video in French: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGVoNQHGRM8 Funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE), Cities Alliance's regional ‘Women and Sustainable Cities’ programme aims to improve governance and access to water resources for women and girls in North Africa. In the municipality of Sebkha in Mauritania, with the support of the town council and in collaboration with the NGO Serv'eau, we conducted a survey of the local community to understand how water shortages particularly affect women and girls. On the basis of this participatory analysis, using our Her4Water tool, Cities Alliance, in partnership with the municipality of Sebkha, is currently building the first collective standpipe, which will be co-managed by the municipality and the women of the community.
