Women in Kairouan learn about traditional majels

As part of the project Femmes et Villes Durables (Women and Sustainable Cities), Cities Alliance has supported women in Kairouan in getting to know more about traditional majels through interactive on-site demonstrations and stories of people who have used them for generations. In December 2024, in collaboration with the Tunisian NGO Lam Echaml, women discovered about how majels were built, cleaned and maintained throughout centuries and how they are still relevant now for rainwater harvesting. The Femmes et Villes Durables programme was funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
