CTC Adopt a Mangrove Program
Coral Triangle Center (CTC) officially launched the "Adopt-a-Mangrove" program, aiming to engage the public in the restoration of mangrove forests in Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area (MPA).
Nusa Penida MPA features diverse coastal and marine ecosystems, including mangrove forest in Nusa Lembongan Island. These mangroves provide habitat for animals, resources for local communities, and coastal protection from storm surges. Nusa Lembongan’s mangrove forest includes 13 species, such as the spotted mangrove (Rhizophora stylosa), cedar mangrove (Xylocarpus granatum), and large-fruited orange mangrove (Bruguiera gymnorhiza).
Under the protection of Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry, local communities have established regulations to safeguard these valuable forests. To further enhance these efforts, CTC has partnered with the local community group Gili Bhuana, formalizing their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership focuses on operating a mangrove nursery, providing educational opportunities for both locals and tourists, and engaging them in replanting initiatives.
