The world produces enough food to feed all 8.2 billion people. Despite this, 673 million people go hungry every day. In Yemen, over half of the population face high levels of acute food insecurity. 600,000 children under the age of five are severely malnourished, while 1.2 million women - many of them pregnant and breastfeeding mothers - cannot access enough food - leading to a generation of malnourished children. However, at a time when action is urgently needed, the funding required to provide vital aid is being slashed. In Yemen, 50% of hospitals are inactive due to a lack of funds. This Rome Nutrition Week, Concern’s Yemen country director Victor Moses calls for the international community to act now, and provide the funding needed to save lives from malnutrition.
