The Pacific Community’s oral statement to the International Court of Justice was presented as part of the proceedings on the Advisory Opinion on the Obligations of States in Respect of Climate Change. The statement was delivered by Dr Stuart Minchin, Director-General of the Pacific Community; Coral Pasisi, Director of Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability; and Vishal Prasad, Director of Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change.Together, they brought a Pacific perspective to the Court, drawing on regional science, technical expertise and the lived realities of communities already facing the impacts of climate change, sea level rise and environmental loss. The advisory opinion process marks a significant moment in international law, seeking greater clarity on the obligations of States in responding to climate change and protecting present and future generations.
