The Pacific Way 2025 30th Anniversary Special Season - Episode 6

Join host Hettie Sem as The Pacific Way celebrates 30 years of bringing you stories BY Pacific people, FOR Pacific people. This week, we take you around the Pacific to hear stories that matter to us, focusing on heritage, sustainable ocean management, and the legacies of Pacific leaders. The episode begins in the Solomon Islands for "Tok Pasifika," where we feature Cedela’s story, celebrating the richness of Pacific languages. Following this, we revisit the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture (FestPAC) to enjoy the vibrant cultural expression from the Cook Islands. We then highlight Integrated Ocean Management (IOM), a concept where everyone—including fisherfolks, village leaders, scientists, government, and young people—can work together to protect our ocean. We sail to Pentecost Island in Vanuatu, where the community of Laone is featured demonstrating how traditional fishing practices are being used to protect their ocean resources for future generations. The segment emphasizes that traditional knowledge plays a very important role in the sustainable use and protection of the ocean for Pacific Island countries. We also hear from Jane Oongasi, a fisher from Papua New Guinea on local issues with fisheries management in the "Guardians of the Pacific" segment. The episode concludes by heading to Micronesia to acknowledge and celebrate the legacy of elders and leaders with Episode 2 of the animated series, "Heroes of Micronesia".
