The Pacific Way 2025 30th Anniversary Special Season - Episode 7
Kia Ora, Hai, and G’Day! Join host Hettie Sem for this special 30th Anniversary season of The Pacific Way, bringing you stories BY Pacific people, FOR Pacific people.
In this episode, we showcase powerful heritage, groundbreaking art, crucial resource management, and a historic global climate victory:
Our episode begins with "Tok Pasifika" in Tahiti, where Fabien shares why language is essential for understanding culture as it acts as the key to culture. We then travel back to the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture (FestPAC) to witness the proud cultural expression of Wallis & Futuna.
Next, we take you to Fiji to experience the innovative VOU Dance Company's Flying Fijian Circus. This story explores how VOU is breaking new ground by creating a platform for aspiring performing artists to pursue a professional career in the arts. We find out how they are shaping the future of dance in Fiji by demonstrating that performing arts can be a livelihood and not just expression.
In our "Guardians of the Pacific" segment, we journey to Kiribati to hear from Itimatang. Itimatang explains the vital importance of looking after fish resources not only to benefit future generations but also to support local tourism.
The episode concludes with an inspiring story of courage and persistence. We follow the incredible journey of Pacific Youth, which began in a classroom at USP in Vanuatu, and culminated over six years later at the world's highest court—the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Tune in to see how these young people secured a historic advisory opinion win for the Pacific in their fight against climate change.
Don't miss this celebration of Pacific resilience and innovation!
