Infrastructure improvement in Abyei

Access to clean water and healthcare is transforming lives in the Abyei Administrative Area. Through a KOICA-funded UN Joint Programme, communities in Ban-Chol Malual and neighbouring villages now have reliable access to safe water. In Amiet, families are receiving essential healthcare through a rehabilitated Primary Health Care Center serving both refugees from Sudan and host communities. Beyond water and health, the programme is strengthening livelihoods, education, and peacebuilding—supporting recovery from conflict and building long-term resilience. Funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and implemented by IOM in partnership with FAO, UNFPA, UNICEF, and WFP, this programme demonstrates what’s possible when communities and partners work together toward lasting solutions.
