Return and Reintegration: Case Studies from Nigeria and Iraq

What happens to migrants when they return to their country of origin? And what does it take for their return and reintegration to really work? It's easy to assume that a return "home" would be more straightforward than moving abroad. But once returned, many migrants face barriers to accessing education, jobs and social support, as well as stigma from local communities. This video looks at the process of "reintegration" for migrants who have returned to Nigeria and Iraq. Experts from the GAPs Project explain the situation for returnees in each country and the mechanisms in place to support them. with Dr. Ngozi Louis Uzomah (University of Nigeria Nsukka), William Warda (Hammurabi Human Rights Organisation, Iraq) *** These videos have been produced under a contract with the EU’s Horizon Europe Research Program (HORIZON-CL2-2022-TRANSFORMATIONS-01-09, Project Reference GAPs 101094341), financed by the European Union’s budget.
